Within the work ‘Fermata’ I explore the ways in which the human form can be approximated.
The Fermata sign (𝄐) within music theory signifies that the note over which it is placed should be held on beyond its natural duration. It mimics a delay of unspecified length. Using poetry, mathematics, the human body, philosophy and science, my work suggests a similar delay of any definite answers to the questions that are being raised by these different disciplines. It intends to approximate rather than define.
By presenting my work as ongoing research, it implies to have no end, just like the Fermata sign, as it continues to raise more and more questions over time without conclusion.
